In November 2018, the Woolsey Fire tore through Malibu, Topanga, and the Santa Monica Mountains — burning nearly 100,000 acres and destroying more than 1,600 structures. Vugar Azeri watched the smoke settle over the Pacific and made a decision: he would spend his career building homes that survive.
A second-generation builder with deep roots in Los Angeles, Vugar had spent years designing and renovating high-end homes along the Westside. But the Woolsey Fire changed the question. It was no longer enough to build beautiful — homes had to be built to withstand. He founded Fire Proof Builder the following year as a division of Westside Home Design, dedicated exclusively to fire-resistant construction in Southern California's wildland-urban interface.
Today, Vugar leads every project personally — from the first defensible-space assessment to final inspection — pairing California CBC Chapter 7A compliance with materials science, structural engineering, and a builder's eye for coastal design. The Palisades and Altadena fires of 2025 reaffirmed what he started in 2018: in Southern California, fire resistance isn't an upgrade. It's the foundation.
